I can't remember exact number of years, but it should be 4-5 now I think, not that it matter much though. If make "one little mistake" as you put it and get called noob, you either play with mentally damaged players or you're not as good as you believe. I've done plenty of improvisation (running out aloen trying to kill a titan fleeing from a base) and I have around 70% succcess rate now. Thsoe 30% are annoying, but they are by no means dominant nor do they matter a whole lot to me. I just learn from my mistakes and improve.
Bottom line: If you can't improvise you're not as good you think (and how the fuck did that change from Darox's version to Pandamimes?).

1: Titan shop changes is something I strongly disagree with, but you could say that from the titans point of perspective it was a well deserved buff to compensate for the undeserved punish change. UDG 1 - 0 Rek.

the ability to improvise has decreased thanks to many recent changes (in particular i can think of the feeder board!) and the high regard for standardized play.
also it's not a great feat if you're better than d1re!
