Hi and welcome to my suggestion

Island defense is a funny, balanced and well thought game. i would give it 5/5 points. BUT newbs do not really have a chance to understand it. There is too much usless text and The introduction [F9] does not help at all.

This is why i post this suggestion!

1a. Colorcodes
every tooltip, ingame text, etc. should be displayed in different colors.
for example:
red = tips for noobs (usefull information e.g. how to surive the first 5 mins)
blue= general information ( Tridents +8 str and +20 dmg)
grey= "unuseful" information (story, atmosphere)


1. message could look like this:

Welcome to island defense.
the normal starting sentence ( blah bla let the laggers settle and the game load)
This game uses color codes. If you are new and dont know what to do make sure you red the red tips!

2. message :

Select your builder within 30 secondsor you will be ejaculated.
Run away from mid and hide somewhere or you will die when titan spawns.

3. message :

Titan spawns in 30 seconds
type -tips for more tips.

we dont want to bother persons of outstanding ability (aka public players) with noob tips.

the 3rd massage should tell them some basics eg. :

whats the goal of this game
how to wall without blocking ( i noticed that it is useless to tell them the 2x2 and 1x1 stuff. its more good to tell them that the titan has the size of a wall and thet when there is a small gap the titan cant pass unless a wall fits in)
what happens when they die
How to prevent feed
how to set up a lumber base
the skills of the titan (invis, NUKE! and heal)
etc.

(maybe there should be some commands like -titan, -feed or -gold showing more information of one specific topic)

I know that those 7 lines of text wont be implemented like this, but my english isnt the best and short sentences = moar good

1b. Tooltips

currently they suck a bit in terms of clarity. I know that creating tooltips is work.

Imo TT should look like this:

Trident
+20 dmg
+8 str
-only titan can carry this item

Merchant
Sells:
Summoning Stone
Gonll luck charm
Lobstershell

This building is used for several upgrades[insert text]
Gold can be recieved from....
Gives the Titan 3 gold When he kills it.

2. -Commands

this is a simple section

just add -tips

-bases

pings every "common" base for 2-3 secounds

Every one of you knows the terrain, all hiding spots, lumbercamps, etc. but for a new player the map looks like a labyrinth.

-tutorial
There are allready very good guids on this site, but do you realy think a player that plays this map for the first time is going to read a guid? Hes probable getting flamed, killed and kicked or killed, flamed and kicked or when the host is a ckicker just kicked. Do you think he will play this map again? I doubt it.

The tutorial command expands the camera bounds a bit to the left.

3. In game example bases

I think we all agree on the fact that a guide without pictures sucks. implementing pictures in a wc3 game is possible ( i know several porn games ) but it increases the filesize and the pics a resized wich looks really strange.

Luckily i know a solution! Extend the play able map size (not the camera) ! After you did this you make a copy of a simple base and place towers and walls for a neutral player.

As soon as the newb types -Tutorial he will see how a base should be set up. Now your going to say that he just can look at other players and copy them. This is right IF there is an other base. Additional you could create a titan for the newb in the area around the Tutorial base. This way he can try whats good against his enemy without having to play titan.

its basicly a rogram that creates tooltips for you. nothin special? ITS AWESOME! You only have to do a tooltip once for every building category (like, you make 1 tower Tooltip and copy and paste them!)

I didn't copy anyone.

I had played a game or two of vampirism like, a year before that, so once I realized the similarities I caught on quickly.

Also as my first time as a gold race I got an awesome mag helper with good advice as goblin and kicked ass.
