Spell Contest #1
When you think of the dark, what do you imagine?


Incase you haven't noticed the purple coloring, the theme of this contest has to do with darkness.

You will have two weeks to complete this spell.
Deadline: Thursday, January 29th 2009


Rules

  • The spell must be made specifically for this contest.
  • You may only submit one spell.
  • Imports are not allowed. Anyone can make a spell look nice with good models  Wink


Scoring

Your spell will be judged by four different qualities.


Theme
5/45 Points

Does the spell fit in with the theme? You get 5 points just for having it!

If it doesn't fit the theme, your spell will be disqualified.


Coding
20/45 Points

Is the code readable? Can this be easily implemented into a map? Does it work more than once?

JASS and GUI will both be scored equally in this category, however, no JASS/GUI hybrids will be allowed. The only exception is to clear memory leaks.


Appeal
15/45 Points

How is the general appeal of your spell? Is there enough eye candy, or too little? Am I temporarily blinded by it?


Balanced
5/45 Points

How would this fair in an average map? Is it too over powered? Do the enemies just die as I touch them?


Judge

The judge of this contest is none other than your favorite editor Darox.

If Darox cannot open the map, it will not be scored.


Prize

The winner of this contest will recieve a custom title of their choice.

The 'no JASS/GUI hybrids' bit. Does this mean it has to be completely in GUI or completely in JASS? So if the spell requires multiple triggers, they all have to be in either GUI or JASS? Please clarify.

You cannot have a mix of JASS and GUI for your spell. It must be either all GUI, or all JASS. The only exception being JASS to clear up memory leaks.

My idea, do not steal ^^

Black Arrow
Fires a Black Arrow formed from dark magic at target point. Each unit pierced by the arrow will have their soul fractured and energy stolen, losing 75 health. The arrow also leaves a trail behind it, which will deal 25 damage per second to units in the trail. When the arrow reaches the targetted point it will explode, stealing energy from all units in a 300 AoE, dealing 200 damage. Half the energy stolen from the explosion and from pierced units then restores the caster's health and the other half causes an aftermath of decay in the area, dealing damage depending on energy stolen.

It shouldn't be so overpowered that you kill any unit in one hit, but it shouldn't be so under powered you need to wait ages for it to die.

So you are saying besides making the spell, you want us to make a practice map where we have a goal that is semi hard to accomplish. And the spell cant be like omg imba and win, but it can't be weak and take for ever to win...?

hmmm, I'm thinking of a portal that opens, then a hand comes out of it and steals the soul of the target. I might actually be able to turn the special effect by making it into a doodad with changed angle. The unit whose soul is stolen gets some debuff... Dunno what exactly, propably Damage over time + reduced damage and MS.
Then one second later a demon steps out of the portal. It holds the soul of the target. However if the demon goes too far away from the unit with it's soul stolen, the soul gets free and the debuff is removed and the demon dies. If the demon dies, the debuff is also removed.

I <3 overcomplicated spells

Hope I'm not too lazy :< And I hope I can get the hand to actually reach out of the portal :< And I propably won't be able to make it MUI :<

But lazyness is propably main problem Tongue

oh gawd,
I can do it MUI by using jass loops.

I'll just make a hybrid spell and then convert it into jass Tongue By hand ofc, not by using that stupid function of editor.
It'll even be MUI

LOL No. This has nothing to do with island defense... You want a critter? Earn it.
