My second sig today. Followed a grunge tutorial, had no pictures so it was kind of difficult to relate, but overall it worked out great!
Text is Manu. Rather slick for an icy feel.  Cheesy

No. I don't know what the problem would be either.  Undecided
Go to the GIMP forums and see what you can find there.

Thanks!

I should of mentioned who it was. Vivi - Black Mage from the Final Fantasy series. I'm not into FF, but I thought the render was really cool.

No, it isn't. As good as an open-source project like GIMP is, it will never replace Photoshop in the enterprise arena because it lacks some of the more advanced features Photoshop can provide.

EDIT: As for your sig Zapla, I liked the first one better. You have a good render and a good font, but the crystalline background bugs me. The left side is way too bright, while the (?)gradient(?) you used makes the right side hard to read.

Not saying I'm perfect, but it's just what I noticed. Overall, another good job Tongue

When you open your render, (you click the Magic Wand, which is in the Main Gimp Window at the top, it's actually called Fuzzy Select Tool) you then click on the other side of your render, which shows lines on the actual render, from there you Select>Invert, then Copy the render, and paste into your Sig window.

Robert has just been lucky.

95% of the renders are poorly made, which means you have to manually cut them out with either the 'lasso' tool or the 'magnetic lasso' tool. You can learn how to make your backgrounds on the internet.

If you want to change sizes, go to 'Image > Image Size...'

If you want to change the color(s), go to 'Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation.' Press the 'colorize' button if you want it to have one color as opposed to simply changing hues.

Filters are simply tools to make your image different.

Those will help you out in the beginning.

When I looked for my render for this sig, I actually just went to Most Rated.

Cutting your renders isn't that bad either; using the pathing tool. If the image is low res though, you're screwed.

There's a lot of tricks I learned how to make your image stand out though, especially the one's I learned in my first tutorial.

standard 1024 x 768, i think......

anyway, always keep the source file with you so that you can recompress it into the required dimension.

No Photoshop > GIMP 100%

I said that because a GIMP user is better then a Photoshop user, which is sad because photoshop can do the same thing as GIMP but with a click of a button. While it takes GIMP to do multiple things to get the same effect.

Tutorials are a great way to learn to new techniques. Not using guides is just another way to deny yourself knowledge.
