Right click a tree to Gather, hitting G is perhaps more difficult.
Oh and G will always do Charge

using the gather button is redundant as it is an extra button for you to hit, slowing down your reactions.
If G is activating gather instead of charge... I'm not sure what would cause that. Would it be the game itself or could it be the keyboard?

I use the hotkey when I harvest and the M key when i want to walk into a seed or near a tree. Just sayin'.

If you have g assigned as something else with your custom keys and don't turn the script off when you play island defense i would imagine so? |

Nope .. G is the same as it is
i just assigned the 6th Spell as G(6th spell is the one next to the Hero Attributes , in case u don't know)
it's only used for doom and morph

All so the Gather hot-key can be used to dodge nukes if you have impeccable reaction. (I've seen some one do it by accident)
Also it can be used in certain spots of the map to move faster.
Only for nature of course.

Some trees in the game is hard to right click if there are nearby buildings, because apparently right clicking a building has more priority than right clicking a tree, even if the tree is in front of the building. I got into the habit of using 'g' for gathering trees for top left ramp off mid, because normally the building is right at the back of the tree to have less blocking.
