You can't detect the amount of time a unit has before it dies from timed life.

then just give it xx ammount of life time and xx ammount of dmg and xx ammount of attack speed when it consumes, doesnt have to be the exact same ammount as the previous one.

agreed.
edit: actually, you could. Just have an interger array and set its value to -1 per second till it hits 0. Can be easily added on to any "every ... seconds" trigger

It would be nice for balth to have some way to increase his duration if need be. It would have to be a trade-off, though, since doing so would be pretty powerful.
Sacrificing demons might just do the trick. Maybe base it off of a percentage of how much health the sacrificed demon has?

better make it a low percentage, them summons have quite a lot of hp altogether
should there be a CD? i mean, either have it with a high % but with a high CD, or make it a low % but with no CD.

mid % of life gain. Also add in a buff for movement/attack speed, but with a fairly low cooldown. Can be stacked, but make it virtually drain your mana to do so because of mana cost.

You cannot increase, stop or pause the timed life of a unit. That feature will be unavailable.

That way there wouldn't be any visual representation of how long you have left.
The only other option is to use a Pheonix-type death (loses hp every second, dies when it reaches 0) and then just give extra regen so it dies slower.

Seems like a pretty good idea, of course it would be hard to balance it.

Or granting him a "demonic life" ability of some sort so when the cooldown ends he dies.
Or: base it off mana. His abilities don't really use that much mana to begin with, and after a bone or two the cost becomes pointless.
Edit:
If balth doesn't have as second attack, why not create a unique attack type (his secondary attack) that has no target that displays his remaining life?
Ok, so that idea kind of sucked. Just brainstorming here.
At the very least give him a moderate buff to attack/movement speed and damage, with a little HP regen.

I don't really think he needs any addition damage or health or anything of that nature, but the idea of making his mana his timed life is actually kind of a neat idea. He could have a spell based off of that ladder lich spell (I don't know what it's called) to sacrifice the other summoned demons.

doesn't even need that, it could just be a dummy ability

Balth might be a beast but all he does is deal a lot of dmg at a high rate. going balth + merchant is very good if you want to support a base, but double summons is the faster and saver way (imo). It all depends on your teammates. For minion hunts with a few decend builders i would go vodoo for silence because disables are what most "minion hunters" lack.

Why not give him small buffs to movement and attack speed while giving him powers of the minion he absorbed:
Arachs give him slow posion, fel hunters mana burn, stalkers (big guys forgot name, havent played demo in a year) give him critical strike.

And yet all this still begs the question: Why buff Balth? He's already the strongest (nature shares his tooltip... derp) titan hunter in the game, and I can think of other hunters that deserve a buff more than Balth.

because demons weak shit. He has no hope of killing even a lvl 2 minion without a lot of dmg upgrades.
besides, it's a cool idea and adds variety

We must be playing a different builder then, since I have no problems killing minions with demo at all.
L2Trap perhaps?

Sure its not hard to kill the minions of bad titans with unupgraded demo doubles, if the titan has some skill good luck.
