Hi all! I'm Mrduck, relatively new to the forums, and this is probably my first REAL post. Now, i've had this Idea for about 2 months 3 weeks and 1 day now. and have finally found the time to create an account, and post this idea. So with no further ado. let me present the Pied Piper!

The Fabled Piper is a legendary musician whose songs can Entrance or Devastate Foes, Renowned by all as one of the most powerful musicians in the known world, the piper is able to control all manner of creatures and was once known as the "great feeder" on the island. The piper was once a servant of the titan, bringing all manner of creatures to the island via nether portals to sustain the titans hunger and stop him from leaving. But once the Titan was plunged into his great sleep after eating too much and hibernated for years, soon the piper left the island, hoping to become more of a musician and develop his skills more. But now, upon hearing of the Titans awakening, The Piper, knowing he cannot sustain the titan for much longer, decides to aid the builders and inhabitants of the island in their fight against the titan.

Type of Builder :  Support/Army
Difficulty: Hard (as he has to be close to allies or enemies to do anything. escape abilities are for a group of people. but aren’t as  effective on own.)
Starting Stats:

Life: 200
Armor: Light
Attack : Piercing range
Range : 250
Building Style: Undead
Lumber per hit: 10
Lumber Capacity: 50
Starting Agility, Strength and Intelligence
-Agi – 10
-Str – 10
-Int – 15  Primary attribute

Now bear with me here.
Spells-
Summon Instrument
For the Bard to be able to perform his deeds of musical power, he needs an instrument, so using the natural power of rock the bard summons an instrument from the great beyond; one that increases his life by 100 and gives him 150 mana and mana regen. (note that only the piper can use this Item, and it cannot be dropped, cannot be sold and the piper can only have 1.)
But when the Piper Upgrades that Item into the Final upgrade of that instrument. (Final Tower) He loses all of those buffs and is forced to summon another instrument.
The Piper, when he casts this spell, will receive one of 3 items at random. Each of these items will give a special buff and ability. HAS A CAST TIME OF 30 SECONDS

Item 1 -  Resonating Flute
The Flute will give a stacking "resonance" attack, (works like the firlords passive attack ability)(cant remember name)
Everytime you attack the titan that is affected by the spell it increases the damage by 5% each time, when you get to 25% you will receive 1 gold everytime you attack it if it is still affected. also gives a +10 agility bonus to the piper.

Item 2 -Harmonius Harp
The Harp gives a slow poison attack, reducing movement speed and attack speed by 20% for 1.5 seconds every attack, (same gold bonus as flute. if you attack titan 5 times you get 1 gold every attack if its still affected. )

Item 3 – Ambience Drum
This Drum gives a AOE attack  an extra 50+ HP and a +10 str bonus
(Same gold bonus when you attack titan)
All three of these are incredibly important to the pipers game play, as you are able to upgrade these 3 times, each time giving them a upgrade to the buff’s and the instruments are able to be upgraded into the pipers final tower.

Song of Summoning - Icon: Carrion Swarm

          Missile: Carrion Swarm
                    Mana Cost: None
                    CD: 80 seconds
                    Casting Time: 1 second.
                    Description:  reduces the movement speed of the enemy target by 50% and causes 200 damage.
                    Requires – nothing, already learnt when started game.

Rat Companion – Icon :  Rat

          Missile: Rat
                    Mana Cost: 90
                    CD: 80 seconds
                    Casting Time: 1 second.
                    Description:  Creates a keen eyed rat to scout a specific area, the rat has true sight and when the titan comes near it will screech as loud as it can, the screech will stun the titan for 1 second. (The rat is not invisible) (Open for suggestions for this one)
(Yes it’s like the goblin stun trap but it’s not invisible.)


I havnt chosen yet, so its up to you. should I choose to have the RAT COMPANION or the CARRION SWARM as his starting escape ability?


Ok. The piper needs spells to support his army and bases. so here is his Song book, which contains buffs and debuffs.

Book of Songs – Icon –

                    Description: Contains the Ancient Songs of the piper.

Inside the Book –
Song of Courage – Icon:    

          Missile: Roar
                    Mana Cost: 40
                    CD: 80 seconds
                    Casting Time: 1 second.
                    Description:  Gives Players around the piper a +10% damage increase.
Requires – Song of Courage form Research Centre.
-Costs 500 Lumber

Distraction – Icon:

          Missile: Dunno something that says “Loud”
                    Mana Cost: 90
                    CD: 80 seconds
                    Casting Time: 1 second.
                    Description:  The piper plays a chord that distracts the titan, causing him to lose armor and flee. (Basically howl of terror).  Armour lost is 10 and forces titan to run away for a bit!
-Requires song of Distraction From RC
-Costs  1000 lumber


Control – Icon: Possession

          Missile: Charm
                    Mana Cost: 100
                    CD: 80 seconds
                    Casting Time: 1 second.
                    Description:  Takes control of a small Creature, These creatures can be controlled for a small amount of time (30 seconds) creatures include the critters around the island and the Minion Mini’s. (Those annoying things that take seeds) This attack will basically work on any low level creature, whether its syphs minions or critters around the map.
-Requires Control from RC
-Costs 250 Lumber


Song of Healing – Icon :        

                   Missile: Healing Ward
                    Mana Cost: 50
                    CD: 30 seconds
                    Casting Time: 1 second.
                    Description:  The piper sings a song that heals units around him for 30 life a second. Including him, the healing affect has a reverse affect on the titan, causing him to lose 30 life a second. piper is stationary when this is happening.
-Requires Song of healing from ARC
-Cost 3 Gold 500 Lumber


 Song of Combat – Icon :

                    Missile: War Drums
                    Mana Cost: Passive
                    CD: Passive
                    Casting Time: Passive
                    Description:  The Piper sings a song of valour, increasing damage of towers/units by 10% in an area of 500.
-Requires Song of Combat from ARC
-Costs 10 Gold 1000 Lumber

Song of Speed –       
 
                    Missile: Mirror image blur thingy.
                    Mana Cost: 50
                    CD: 30 seconds
                    Casting Time: 2
                    Description:  The Piper sings a song of speed, increasing the attack and movement speed of a unit or tower. (increases speed by 50% for 10 seconds)
-Requires song of speed from ARC
-Costs 10 Gold 500 Lumber

Song of Protection  - Icon :    

                    Missile: Mana Shield
                    Mana Cost: 120
                    CD: 180
                    Casting Time: 2
                    Description:  The Piper creates a shield around a wall or tower, causing it to be impervious to damage for 5 seconds.

                    Description:  The piper turns everyone around him in an area of 600 invisible for 10 seconds, also reveals invisible units. Area of effect 200

                    Description:  This is the pipers spot of meditation, where he comes to learn more about the universe, and becomes stronger through songs of the world.  

Nether Portal – Icon :

                    Role: Merchant
                    Cost: 30 gold 1000 lumber
                    BT: 10
                    Size: Same as puppets shelter
                    Units Trained: n/a
                    Food Given: n/a
                    HP: 700
                    Description:  The piper calls upon a mighty portal to the nether, which from he calls critters that he sent into the void, and were warped by their energies.

FINAL TOWERS
The Piper can only have 1 ultimate tower. Depending on what instrument he randomly summoned at the start, the piper can upgrade it using a recipe requiring an instrument and 90 gold that the ARC sells. When the piper upgrades the instrument he loses all the buffs the instrument gives.
1 – Harp Upgrade – Resonating Lights
Damage: 75-75 Fast damage attack speed
Special: The Resonating lights cling onto the enemy dealing 30 extra damage to the titan. and slowing attack speed by 5%
(when held as an item it gives immolation in an area of 500 around the piper, dealing 70 damage a second)

2- Flute Upgrade – Harmonius Totem
Damage: 125-125 Medium attack speed
Special: Can attack up to 3 targets
(When held as an item it automatically shoots piercing notes at enemies, notes deal 30 damage twice every second.)

3 – Drum Upgrade – Ambience Cannon
Damage: 140-140 Medium attack speed
Special: AOE attack and a 15% chance to hit a 3x critical
(when held as an item it increases armour by 10 and gives thorns aura)
THORNS AURA HAS AN AREA OF 500 AND RETURNS 20% OF DAMAGE

ALL OF THESE TOWERS COST 90 GOLD AND 300 LUMBER AND REQUIRE THE CORRESPONDING INSTRUMENTS FOR THEM TO BE ABLE TO BE MADE.

(works like Radioactive’s hunter where you can jump on it. this is just a theory, something that will help the piper in ganking.) (doesn’t need to be put in.) When piper jumps on the horse the model turns into the archmage.

          Armor: 2
          Damage: 20-20  Melee piercing
          Model: Murloc (tinted dark green)
          Attack and movement speed: Fast

This grabs a hold of the enemy and slowly drags them towards the devastator, doing 100 damage a second till it arrives at the devastator, it takes 2 seconds for the enemy to be pulled back, and its max range is 700. (very fast pull)

Nether Endurance Level 1 – Cost 10 gold 500 Lumber

Increases health by 100 and increases damage by 10 for all nether units (including nether portal spawns)

Nether Endurance Level 2 – Cost 10 gold 500 Lumber
Icon:  Improved Creature Carapace
   
Increases life by another 100 and increases damage by 10 for all nether units (including nether portal spawns)

Nether Endurance Level 3 – Cost 10 Gold 500 lumber

Nether Poison
Icon: Poisonous Barbs    
Gives a slowing poison to the warped menagerie and morphed birdling’s attacks. the poison decreases movement speed and attack speed by 10%

Blink – cost 500 lumber
Icon: Blink    
Gives all Nether units 1 mana and the ability to use Blink. Blink has the same range as stonethrowers.

Robe Lining – cost 500 Lumber
Icon:    
Increases Life by 100 and changes armour type to Medium



Ok. So that basically wraps up the builder.
Total Lumber and Gold cost for all spells and all buildings (except final towers)
- 130 Gold 15680 Lumber
100 Gold for all spells and I’ve gotten rid of some gold on some of the abilities to make sure he isn’t completely useless when someone dies early.
Is that over-expensive? o.0

I'm sorry if i've created too many problems. Tongue i'll try to answer right now.
First of all i screwed up the hp bonus for the instruments, its meant top be 100 hp not 1000. sorry if that confused you a bit.
I still havnt finished the post i was planning to fix and tweak it today.

Now, the control is meant to control critters and minion mini's it would work on syphs minions as well. any low level creature that isnt the titan or its mini's.

Spell questions: i was planning to give song of combat a area of about 500.
Song of concealment should have an area of about 200. and only reveals invisible units for about 3 seconds.
true 15% should be better.

I should tweak the nether gate a bit. it should be able to work on allies as well. something that can help gankers access to the minis hiding in the centre.
Now, i was going to write the Demonic portal minions as having 200hp and 20-20 damage and 1 armor. melee attack of course.

All of the final towers have the same range. i'm guessing about 700. and al have magic ranged attacks.
the harmonius totem in its item form should shoot piercing notes of about 30 damage at 2 notes a second.
Ambience Cannon cannon is different, it has 600 range and you're right it should change to x2 critical. Thorns aura has 500 range.

Really? i didnt think that magic attacks were so painfully frustrating, so piercing attacks then?

Well, if you feel the instrument should be given on spawn then maybe thats what should happen, but i was planning on having the piper have to be pretty well useless at the start. a bit like the puppet. The reason behind this is so the piper, if needed be he can have more than one Final tower. because when the final tower recipe is bought and the instrument is transformed the piper loses the buffs from that item and gets the tower, essentially then, the piper can summon another instrument.
True the nether portal spell an be problematic on allies if theres a terrible person who's chosen piper. Hmm... Could there be a window that asks you if you want to go into the portal? Or maybe you need specific items to access it? something army units already have.

Now i'm working on the army units ATM what's wrong with them so far? Tongue


Well, the reason that warped menagerie is there is to add a reasonable ganking unit, basically a ranged ground unit. But, the reason behind most of these units being tthe way they are is because, the piper should be on the battlefield with them, i wanted to force him to be on the battlefield, essentially giving important buffs for any unit around him, making ganking a lot easier.

Ok, Mutated rats HP should be 200. another friggen typo. my damn keyboard is a piece of junk. Tongue now i've created these units on worldedit, and having 2 rats 2 menageries are capable of ganking pretty well.
I havnt added the upgrades for the units yet, but the menagerie and birdling were to receive nether poison, which can slow a units attack and movement speed down by 10%
Should a cost of 250 lumber for the rats and 500 lumber for menagerie be enough?
Resonating lights effect lasts 5 seconds.
ambience cannon aoe is 200
Thorns aura percentage is 20%

Fixing all of it now. give me about 5 minutes then read post again. Tongue

Avoid using custom models/icons.

Carnerox and someone else decided to stop using those and re-use any other wc3 icons/models.

lol, i'll try to tint and warp some models on the Worldedit, see if i can reduce the number of custom models.
Also, i was thinking of an art file for the instruments, so whatever instrument he has it shows in his right hand.

I'm thinking it's a bit overpowered. Is the unit invulnerable to every other type of damage while being dragged? Can the unit move while dragging a minion/titan? Can the effect be punished off? Can it be teleported while being dragged?

If it's not invulnerable to other types of damage, it seems like it would be a 5 second period where you would just smack it with everything you can throw at it (IE. Nature Spears). If the devastator can move/blink, you would just run away from it and drag it until it died (I imagine you wouldn't be able to do anything while dragging).

My biggest problem with it would be this: If you got two of them, positioned them directly opposite the minion or titan, and hooked them at the same instant, would it just continually drag between the two of them and do never-ending DPS?

Or am I totally understanding the skill wrong and it just does 50 DPS for 5 seconds on the minion, and the side effect is that it's dragged to the devastator, and that part can be stopped?

Well, the those are some pretty valid points there 1C0ckBlock, but i havtn fully had time to edit the post yet. because... well, i'm lazy.
The Pull on the Song of Protection will be removed, as i think it is a bit much, and because i've added the devastator and the tendril hook special.

now, you can only have 1 devastator, its pretty much meant to be a hero unit, that can be revived for half the cost.
i guess it could be kind of cheap for the devastator to keep moving like that. so i'm going to change it to a instant 200 damage and is pulled quite quickly towards the devastator. hows that?

ok, i'll get on fixing these as soon as i can.

I was starting to wonder why is was called the Pied Piper builder because I didn't see any animal-units until the end. They are too weak for their cost, and aren't even that great. You would also have to spend more gold/lumber to make them better...and they still aren't great. Demonologist can get double summons for 20 gold, and your devastator also costs 20 gold, but it's one unit... Also you have to pay to revive it, whereas demo can re-summon it after the cooldown. The whole idea doesn't seem very pied pipery...more like a Eredar Bard...if that makes sense. Also some of your numbers are a bit off, like the 500 immolation on the hard super tower seems a bit much. Normal immolation is about 150-200 I would think.

Ok, just tell me in general what you think needs to be fixed, i know i sound eager to please ATM, but i just want the builder to be as good as possible.
The Original Concepts for the Piper's army units was the same as satyr's army units, just with different styles.
i put the 500 immolation range to co-aside with the pipers ranged attacks so he wouldnt have to get so close, as he's a army supporter. the army units dont have to be used but they're there purely the same as why the satyrs army is there.

The story behind the nether portals etc. was going to be put in the story later. but the pied piper used portals through the nether in order to transport the food for the titan to the island. ergo, he knows how to use energies of the nether.
Can you tell me what needs improvement though?

Well, the those are some pretty valid points there 1C0ckBlock, but i havtn fully had time to edit the post yet. because... well, i'm lazy.
The Pull on the Song of Protection will be removed, as i think it is a bit much, and because i've added the devastator and the tendril hook special.

now, you can only have 1 devastator, its pretty much meant to be a hero unit, that can be revived for half the cost.
i guess it could be kind of cheap for the devastator to keep moving like that. so i'm going to change it to a instant 200 damage and is pulled quite quickly towards the devastator. hows that?

ok, i'll get on fixing these as soon as i can.


Ahh, you can only have one. I didn't read the suggestion that in depth, just skimmed it and talked about what popped out. Still, if you have two pipers and a good microer, you could just pass control and GG (until you change it, anyway).

I'm not sure how I feel about the 200 instant damage - at least it should be 250, to equal the 50 DPS for 5 seconds. How long is this drag time? And can it go through units? Imagine a devastator in the middle of a bunch of nat spears with a hole in the middle - drag and GG.

Edit:

Just reading it over, I ask again: Does it turn collision off on the unit being dragged? I assume you aren't letting the minion move while it's being dragged. Could you not surround the mini with nat units, eye it, then drag it? That way the minion can't run away, won't be dragged through the units (unless the collision is turned off), and is eyed so when it WWs, it'll still get dragged?

The pull itme is 2 seconds, it moves quite quickly towards the devastator and theres an initial damage when casted on the minion or titan of 200.

The tendril should make the minion or titan collidable, so it hits other units. when it hits a unit it should stop the pull and just give only the 200 damage.
i assume it should be dragged if the unit is able to be seen or ww's inside the tendril attack. if it ww's inside of the attack and you cant see it, i assume its still getting the damage given, as it is a targetted attack.

I know it's criteria for the competition, but I'm just trying to think of ways this could be used to make it a completely overpowered skill.

well, i've tried to make it NOT overpowered, adding that you can only have 1 hero unit, it pulls faster than the devastator can walk, it works on ww'd units. i guess, that the grapple could be stopped if the unit was stunned or silenced. but i dont know of any titans that can do any of that. except the rock guy with the pebble toss.
UPDATE: added the Icons for the units buildings and spells. i cant get them to directly show the pictures though, but i can get the links to you guys. Tongue

yeah, but theres a problem with the text box, if i write too much it goes back up to the top of the page everytime i write a letter at the bottom of it. making near impossible to paste pictures into the image. i could probably do that in word though, so i'll get right on it. Tongue

The posting box's controls are screwy (it took me a bit of time to learn them). To add in an image, hit the Insert Image button. Then, copy and paste the URL of your image in between the {img}{/img} that appears there. It is time consuming, but pictures look great in a post.
