I actually never stepped up to edit Island Defense back when the patch first broke it because I was heavily drafting the idea for Starcraft II ID.  I really liked the Galaxy Syntax and, combined with Andromeda, it could be sick.  My idea was different, though.  For example, one builder would have a 2x3 wall instead of the regular 2x2.  There could be a Ghost Builder who would be like Demonologist.  But, you know, then I got antsy and made 2.8.6d. My general programming knowledge is good enough to do it, but, I don't have SC2 and don't plan on getting it with my shitty PC.  But, maybe I'll splurge, get it today, and make Island Defense?  But what would it be called? Plus, I couldn't edit two games, so everyone would have to be happy with no more darox versions, or a long wait between them.

yeah lol, i am making Island Defense 2 for SCII. it's still early in development but i am happy to say that the workflow is going well with me having enough time to edit on it every day.

This is where we are atm:
Neco (Northwind) has been kind enough to give me a terrain copy of the war3 ID map to ease the process of me remaking the terrain in Galaxy from scratch (since the legacy map conversion apparently converts is to a map that for lack of a better description looks like a scenery pulled out of Tim Burton's nightmares).

The terrain is 28% complete, disregarding terrain elevation (not cliffs). Terrain elevation won't affect the actual pathing of the map but it will make the terrain look more realistic.

The map's terrain will mirror the terrain in 3.0.6e

The map's script (not actual triggers but the project's script is 60% complete. After everything is all set in there unit, item and ability creation will commence.

I'll make a thread about ID2 alone with updates on it but not before i get the map closer to an actual beta state.

The map will be available for enUS players since that's the region i got my sc2 in (since most of my bnet friends played East Coast). You can flame blizz for this again.

Seriously. The map changes in 3.0 were kind of "wtf?". picking the terrain from old panda or sickles version would be a lot better.

Andromeda sucks... it's just a mish mash of Galaxy, Java concepts and gex own ideas and then no structure or anything upon that. Oh I forgot about the Java mentality forced down upon everything... the guidelines even states that "All things you do should have it's own object"... so stupid. Oh, I forgot about the "Oh this is Java everything must be safe so the user can't make something weird!!!!" Hmm lets see, this probably closes out operator overloading which can be totally awesome if used right.

Lets not forget about the keywords that means one thing when they are in conjunction with a class and another thing when standing free in a library... you might see why I don't think Andromeda is going to be a hit, you need the think in vJASS for it to be a hit, keeping it close to the original syntax, use known concepts and keywords and make everything structured. Don't allow 3 ways to do 1 thing just because you can, 1 way is enough.

yes i read Sidd wasn't editing it and nobody else claimed that they were editing it. and that goes hand to hand with the fact that ppl have been making maps ever since the beta and still nada on SC2 ID.

and sickle, i do understand the quality  of work needed for a map such as this. i ask that you hold your "leave the island defense making to the pro's" comment untill you actually have seen what i can do. heck it's not even a contest. I just wanna bring the map to SC2 and am aware to what degree of quality it has to be made on.

And to answer the question of who i am better:
I'm an ex clannie and friend of Northwind for some time now.
Yes i am new to this forum since i never bothered with editing anything related war3 for 5 years now in hope that blizz would bring SC2 to the ppl. and they did. So i'm doing it. I have no probelms with others working on their own version. Heck Darox was still working on his version while Panda was on his.

Gwypaas yes i think you can help with publishing it on Europe Tongue that would be nice. And you're also welcomed to add any form of feedback once i release some concrete stats about the development. As you've edited ID in the past i'd appreciate it.
